How to solder a wire between Home button and logic board connector?

I'm attempting to solder a wire between the "home button" flex pin on my iPod Touch 3rd Gen and the pin connector on the board which completes the signal between the home button and the board when the button is pressed.

I have taken the necessary steps to scratch off the protective gold coating from the area where the solder is placed but that doesn't seem to send any signal when I press the button.

I have attached an image showing where I'm trying to solder the wire and was wondering if someone knows how to properly solder a wire between the area shown in the image and the home button?
