Half of my keyboard not working. Tips for repairing?

So the bottom row of my laptop's keyboard is completely unresponsive. Actually the spacebar still works but I have to press really hard and press it multiple times. I have no idea why it's not working because there hasn't been any liquid damage. I thought the battery was bad (and it was, like only 60% battery health) so I replaced it. But the issue still hasn't been fixed. I'm fine with using an external keyboard, but I'd still like some tips/guide on replacing my keyboard. I saw on YouTube that they were soldering it in and I really hope I don't need to solder it.

I'm guessing your YouTube video was showing you how to replace the keyboard itself while keeping the existing palmrest; the upper half of the main body of the laptop. On yours, the keyboard isn't actually meant to be replaced, as they use a zillion plastic studs that get melted down to hold the keyboard; it's far faster and cheaper than making it replaceable with a ton of screws.

The upshot is that Dell intends for you to replace the palmrest assembly, which comes with the keyboard preinstalled. As you found, you can get by cheaper by replacing just the keyboard, but the cost is having to get it out by cutting all those plastic welds, then figuring out how to resecure the replacement.

Anyway, kudos to Dell for making their service manuals available to the general public so we can fix our computers ourselves. iFixit has a copy on the device page here.

I see, so getting the palmrest is another option. I'll definitely look into that when I feel like repairing it!
