After replacing the power socket on the MB, the trackpad doesn't work. I've reloaded both recommended drivers from the Lenovo website. One issue I see: the ZIF socket for the trackpad cable on the MB is a 10-pin socket but the OEM cable is only an 8-pin cable. WTF Lenovo?????

Check the ZIF connector latch and alignment- an 8-pin cable in a 10-pin socket is normal on some Lenovo boards. Ensure it’s fully seated, no bent pins, and cable isn’t damaged. If still dead, inspect trackpad power lines or replace the cable/trackpad.

Thanks Rashmi. Problem is knowing where the cable should be placed in the connector: left, center, or right. I bought a new cable just to be sure the cable wasn't bad but that didn't help. Because it is an 8-lead cable in a 10-pin connector, the reference notches do not line up to anything so, not only is it difficult to see whether you have the lines of the cable lined up with the pins, you have to know the alignment as stated above. Also, because the cable is smaller than the connecter, it can slide sideways As I noted in one of my last answers, at one point, the cable slid sideways and apparently shorted out some power leads to the trackpad. The trackpad heated up and began to melt through the trackpad cover. Just a really poor design by Lenovo.

@ericmetzge30949 you've replaced the power socket and now what is going on with your trackpad cable? Did this not fit before? Give us a bit more detail about the work you did.

The Touchpad worked before I disconnected its cable from the MB. It was apparently connected properly before disconnecting, but I did not notice the difference between the cable and the ZIF connector when disconnecting it. I de-soldered the old power socket and soldered in a new socket. Upon putting the MB back in the LT, everything worked fine except no response from the trackpad. I reloaded the IO and Touchpad drivers from the Lenovo site, but still no response. After much troubleshooting, I determined the problem was probably the touchpad cable connection to the MB. The original cable is an 8-line ribbon cable, but the ZIF connector on the MB is a 10-pin ZIF. I could find no documentation on how the ribbon cable was supposed to connect to the ZIF connector. In fact, the cable slides back and forth within the ZIF connector. At one point, it must have shorted as the touchpad got VERY hot and began to melt the plastic cover.

@ericmetzge30949 your motherboard is possibly a NM-D472 that would make the connector a clamshell FC5AF081-2931 Fpc connector. Let's see what your connector looks like and what you got going on there. 在已经存在的问题里加入图片

Thanks for the schematic oldturkey03. 110 pages later, wasn't able to find the simple pin-out for the 10-pin connector. Rashmi confirmed the 8- vs. 10-pin dichotomy below. Just not sure how to deal with it. Gonna probably take it to a Lenovo Service Center for repair. This is why we did not recommend Lenovo to our customers at my computer repair store. Works fine until it doesn't, then it is awful to repair.

Well, Lenovo Service Center (MicroCenter in Denver) was worthless. Said he'd never seen this before and couldn't help. Suggested buying a new palm rest and motherboard.
