Hi I replaced the battery, and it doesn't seem to be detecting it. If I unplug it from the wall it shuts down, also the fan is running and has not ever stopped. I have had it plugged in to the wall for several hours now

if you see an 'X' or nothing at all where the battery icon is in the top menu bar this will confirm the battery is not being detected. In system profile under 'power' it should be displaying the battery info, same with CoconutBattery,. Carefully go over the battery replacement guide as it seems to be that the battery is not fully connected, this will cause the unit to go into a safe mode in which the fans will spin more to prevent overheating. Ensure that there are no bent or damaged pins and that the cables are fully inserted and latches are locked.

@kristinam66215 - Let's give this a try to see a bit deeper into the problem. Install this gem of an App CoconutBattery let's see what it tells us, take a snapshot of the Apps main window and post it here so we can see it as well.
