I'm assuming we are talking about a manual transmission vehicle. If so, it's possible something has gotten jammed in the space where your shift lever goes for 4th gear. Otherwise, you likely have worn out the syncro mesh on that gear and the transmission will need to be serviced by a mechanic.

8th Gen Grand Prix (2004-2008) only came with automatic transmission (AT) although they did have a driver initiated manual up/down shift feature known as TAPShift.

Oh gosh, then check your transmission fluid, that can cause all sorts of weird behavior. And then take it to a mechanic! Automatic transmissions are complicated as heck.
