A1708/EMC 3164—于2017年6月上市,这台入门级MacBook Pro保留了它的传统功能键(相对于OLED触控条)。

Battery not detected after a new install.

I installed the battery as per the instructions, which went fine... on trying to boot up the mac, it is NOT detecting any battery and shows up the battery initially in the menu bar with a "X".
in the battery settings, I dont think it detects any battery.

What should be the most likely issue?

in trying to insert the battery board data cable, I broke the top flap of the cable, which I believe protects/covers the actual connector. I have attached a pic of the connector and I did ensure that the lock is in place. Can you help understand if the connector looks OK and inserted enough?

The "X" in the menu bar is telling us that the battery is not being fully detected so 1st off you need to check again the connector is fully inserted.

Maybe a good idea to post some clear pictures of the connector by editing the question and adding them. Also to install CoconutBattery and add the screenshot of the info also.

If after all the issue remains then it is likely that there is a fault on the data lines on the logic board which would require further diagnosis and repair.

The battery management cable which is that thin ribbon cable is likely not connect properly. Review Steps 10 ~ 13 is the ZIF latch down?

ok, I added pics of the board data cable. What is the best way to insert that edge in? I found it a little tricky to do it since it is a soft cable and not a hard one.

I did ensure that it is locked too and tugged the cable a little - i did NOT tug on it too hard, since I was afraid I might break it?

I did break the top cover, but I later stuck it back since it covers the actual connector. I assume that should not matter?

@aliasgarp Gently lift up the latch and insert the cable more as it appears it is 3/4 of the way in (Both sides) then press down the latch to lock it.

is there any tool you guys use to insert this cable or is it just by hand?

完成的

@aliasgarp - these cables and connector system is what is called Zero Insertion Force (ZIF). The cable end only needs very little force to insert into the connector. No tools required! At most a fingernail is needed to lift the latch up.

But! The clamping latch must be in the correct position! The latch must be in the retracted position allowing the opening to be clear. Then once inserted and squared, the latch is set compressing onto the cable.

The most likely issue is the damaged battery board data cable connector. That top flap is part of the locking mechanism; if it’s broken, the cable may not be making proper contact even if it looks seated. When the Mac shows an “X” on the battery, it usually means the logic board can’t communicate with the battery, not that the battery itself is dead. Reseating the cable carefully, checking for bent pins, or replacing the battery data cable entirely is recommended. Also reset the SMC after reconnecting. If the flap is gone, replacement is often the only reliable fix.

I did stick the cover back on, onto the ribbon cable. I will try reseating the cable once more, but in case it does not work, can I buy that cable individually?
