Wii U Disc Drive makes awful sounds (inserting/spinning)

So recently my cat pushed my Wii U from my desk and fell pretty hard.

While the disc drive still read and writes, inserts and ejects perfectly. The sounds it makes when I insert a disc is broken. When it spins (reads) it makes scratching sounds but it doesn't scratch the disc at all.

I do have some audio if one is interrested.

I do found some ebay disc drives but not sure how I would transfer the logic board.

Would it still be possible to repair the one I have?

Hi!

Yep, some moving parts inside the disc drive are touching each other making that awfull scratching sound…

It’s the metal plate where the disc spindle is on it.

Unfortunately, it’s very difficult to find those parts and not easy to repair. So I advise to replace the disk drive completely.

Transfering the old PCB (drive board) from your broken drive to the new drive is required, otherwise it won’t read games.

Glady it’s not difficult to replace it (you need to open up the drive and get the board out).

Hi, sorry for the late reply.

I changed the PCB but now it doesn't want to boot anymore.

When I want to turn it on the LED goes blue and then turns red and it flickers slowly.

Hi! No problem at all!

Sound like a different issue to me. Are you sure that the front faceplate is correctly installed? Guide > Nintendo Wii U Front Faceplate Replacement

If you are 100% sure, then I would test with a new power supply and see what happens...

Hey,

Thanks again for all the help you gave me.

I took it apart again (not the disc drive) and reinserted all the ribbon cables and now it just boots up. The best thing, the new disc drive doesn't make weird noises or scratching noises.

I might have not fully inserted a ribbon cable.

I really appriciated the help.

I thought I was doomed or had to pay 200€ to get it fixed.
