Hi!

You probably want to disassemble the Gamepad and get the buttons out.

Clean them with a wet cloth (or with isopropyl alcohol) thoroughly.

Then put it back together and see how that goes! Should do the job!

Thanks. I'll give that a try. I also have another question I'm hoping you can answer another question. I was moving some stuff around my wiiU and had to move it and it made this horrible grinding noise:

https://youtu.be/904ZD_1zlyM?si=UjJWcRjB... you can hear it at 0:55. Is that normal? it doesn't do it when vertically or horizontally, only when I held it that specific way. I tested the disc drive (I don't have a wiiU game but I did have a wii game to test) it prompted to go to the wii menu so I'm guessing the disc drive isn't damaged? someone told me to check the fan grate and fan itself but I can't seem to see anything wrong with it?

Yeah, sound like it’s coming from the drive. You can test this without a game and see what happens. If nothing happens, it’s the disc drive for sure.

This is very common for the Wii disc drives. Good to know is that it will still read discs, and it won’t damage the disc.

The little metal piece (where the top spindle is on), is sometimes touching other moving parts from the drive causing the grinding noise.

I recommend to ignore it, and let it be as it is now. Just let the Wii U be vertically or horizontally.

If it’s getting worse even when the Wii U is normally positioned, then you might want to replace the disk drive (it’s for the best to replace the drive completely, as the small parts are difficult to find). Be aware: you need to transfer the original PCB to the new drive for the Wii U).

For now, just let it be as it is :).

I've never opened a wiiU before but when you say PCB is that the motherboard? is it easy to just attach the new drive to the board in the wiiU or will I have to take it out of the wiiU completely in order to fix?

Also where could I buy another drive?

The PCB is the disk drive board. You need to replace this for the original (from you current installed drive) to the new drive! You need to take out the old drive before you can proceed!

I recommend to buy it on AliExpress or Amazon or Ebay (look at the reviews first).

Please let me know if you need a guide!!

Hey there. So a couple of things:

https://youtu.be/q6tmlA-2w5U?si=ssS5eJcW... first the gamepad. I tried cleaning it but ZL/ZR buttons still seem kinda sticky. The volume slider is also REALLY stiff now. It was kinda stiff beforehand but I managed to loosen it up. But now I have to apply force just to get it to move. I cleaned it and I'm just not sure what's happening..

Second, my friend and I took apart the wiiU and we took the disc drive out. It's not the disc drive making that grinding noise. We think it's the fan. We just fiddled around with it for awhile and the grinding doesn't seem nearly as bad now (only if I tip it again like before and even then it's not nearly as loud) is that normal for the fan to grind a little still if you're holding the wiiU back up to the ceiling? not that you should do that anyway lol but I'm just wondering.

edit: figured out the issue with the volume slider. there's a notch the slider sits in. Couldn't even see it until my friend pointed it out!
