After troubleshooting, MacBook Pro still stalling

For over a year now, my Macbook Pro has been having issues stalling. I get the spinning wheel, sometimes frequently in a short space of time, sometimes not at all for a day or two. After having done several tests, I eventually replaced my HD, and the problem continued. I ran diagnostics, reformatted the drive, writing zeros, and yet the stalling still happens. Recently, I used Tech Tool Pro to run all the tests available, and to optimize the hard drive. And yet still, the stalling happens. Is it possible that the issue is the cable to the hard drive? Or perhaps something else, like the logic board?

I had similar issues a year ago. Turned out it was simply software related. Have you checked console regularly? When reformatting the drive, did you reinstall OS X as a new Mac or did you restore?

yes, i checked the console regularly for a while. i think the stalling never showed up. i had some messages, but asking a friend, he said that wouldn't have been related. i will keep my eye on it again. i might post here if i see a message for the time of stalling. about installing OSX, I'm pretty sure it was an installation as new. I say that because I can't remember seeing a 'restore' option. I chose the write zeros option and then installed OSX. It sounds like for you, the problem was resolved. that's encouraging. thank you for your answer

Yes, I got the problem solved. But I did so by reinstalling OS X and not restoring from a time machine backup.

Did you restore from a time machine backup?

You could create a second partition on your hard drive and install a second os x version to that partition. By doing so, you can be sure the problem is not software related.

If the stalling then keeps coming, you probably have a more expensive problem.

I don't know what exactly could be the source of your problems then, but I would reccomend bringing your machine to a service provider.

ok, thanks for the help. I will give it a go. No, I didn't restore from Time Machine. I only had a few pictures I wanted to keep, so I put those on a CD, then just reinstalled OSX from scratch.
