My PSP has no sign of life

Hi I have had this psp for like a year now and it was basically in near new condition. But one day when I had it on charge it was over heating and I don’t think I turn it off properly (left it on rest mode) and so I quickly disconnected it BUT now it won’t turn on. The charger works and the battery has power too (Checked both with an Electrometer) but it just doesn’t turn on. The LED doesn’t flash and neither does the screen. Is my PSP dead or what could be the issue?

最有帮助的答案

1. Hard reset

  • Remove the battery and charger.
  • Hold the power switch up (ON position) for ~30 seconds.
  • Reinsert battery, plug charger, and try again.

2. Boot without battery

  • Connect PSP directly to charger (remove battery first).
  • If it powers on → battery protection circuit is bad, try a replacement battery.

3. Inspect charge port & board

  • Look into the DC barrel jack → bent or burnt pins?
  • Overheating can sometimes burn out the DC input circuit.

4. Test with another battery/charger (if possible)

  • Even if your meter shows voltage, PSP batteries can fail under load.
  • Borrow or buy a cheap PSP battery and test.

5. Look for signs of life

  • Plug into charger → listen for faint coil whine or heat from the board.
  • Try pressing power and holding R trigger + Power (forces recovery on some PSPs, though the E1000 is limited).

❌ If still dead

Most likely failures:

  • Power Management IC (PMIC) burned from overheating.
  • Fuse blown on the power line (PSPs have tiny onboard fuses near the DC jack and battery connector).
  • Motherboard shorted when it overheated.

I tried #1 with no success, then #2 and still didn’t work. With #3 I looked inside the barrel jack with no bent pins and Im entirely sure on where the DC Circuit is. With #4 I sadly don’t have another battery to try but ill look online for one. #5 I couldn’t hear any faint sounds from the motherboard when I turned it on and tried a for w recovery with no effect. So it might be one of the three failures you listed but I’m not too sure on how to look at that sorta thing.

Hi there!

First, I would try a new battery and see if that works.

If not, then it's most likely motherboard related.

Does the power led shows anything? Like a green light? And when you put the charger in, does it show the orange light?

Hopefully it's battery related, if not, you can buy a new motherboard and just replace it completely.

Please let us know how it goes!
