Mac Pro 2009-2012

The Early 2009 Mac Pro—also known as the Mac Pro 4,1—introduced Intel's Nehalem architecture to Apple's line of professional desktop computers in March 2009. The Mac Pro 5,1 used the same interior design but received further CPU updates in 2010 and 2012.

Mac Pro 5,1 Powers On, No Video, Red Lights on Ram Board

Mac Pro 5,1 2012 running Mojave, Radeon Sapphire RX 580. Refused to wake from sleep morning after regular work day with no issues. Hard restart produced startup Chime, but no video signal. Checked power connections, disconnected external drives. Seems to boot up, machine and drives are visible/accessible on network from other devices. Checked with side panel off. RX 580 lights, fans spin up intermittently then stop. Two Red LEDS light on the Ram Riser.

Going to try takng the machine down, giving it a good clean, and reseating the PCIe cards ans RAM and see if that helps

But may have reached my technical limits. Any insights?

Full cleaning. Re-installed Ram modules in pairs. 2, 4, and 6 modules rebooted with Video Signal on, as normal. Took opportunity for normal shutdowns between tests. The last pair booted, then punked out after about three min. Re-seated modules 4 and 8 AGAIN, and machine booted normally. System Report and Tech Tool tests show all modules OK and operating normally with all 64MB available to the system. My suspicion is that Adobe Photoshop and Premiere with it's know issues with Memory leaking, in combination with a rather busy Firefox, ate all the available RAM and scrambled something having to do with the RAM allocated to talking to the Graphics Card.

Happy it was not the Monitor or Graphics Card. That would have been past troubleshoots, expensive and inconvenient.
