Adamo 13 - Power cable OR power jack problem?

I will try to be articulate, but may be overtly verbose in trying to explain the issue:

I am having trouble with charging my adamo - I suspect it is the power jack itself.

When I plug the power cable into the power jack, it does not always charge or make a connection. I can see from the battery icon when it has connected.

When I plug it in and the icon for the battery does not activate the battery icon with a plug next to it, I can often manipulate it to charge by applying pressure to the outer base of the power cord while it is plugged in. Unplugging and re-plugging don't seem to make a difference.

What do you think the issue is -- and can I fix it?

Thank you for your time!

cate, I've got exactly the same problem. Very keen to hear how it goes.... Also, where did you get your replacement part from? I can't find any online.

cate, you can check it in a few ways. Use a multimeter and the barrel of your AC adapter. The positive lead is the inside barrel and the outside is the negative. Plug your adapter in and see if you have output, you should get something in the 19 volt range. Move the cable /barrel around a bit, just to make sure the wire is not broken on the inside of the barrel. If you continue to get power, the adapter is okay. Then "you do have to take it apart and expose it and see exactly what you need Dell Adamo Teardown shows you how to get it all apart. I would try to either get it from Dell or one you have the part check on Digikey or Mouser.com" The DC jacks are also available on ebay, but will run at about $20. If your jack still has all the leads on it, you may try to resolder it and see if that will make a difference. Either way, this job does require soldering skills. Hope this helps, good luck

Thanks for the instructions! It is, indeed, the jack -- the adapter is fine (both of them -- I have two!).

I appreciate the link to the teardown -- I feel comfortable doing that, and by chance, my brother just bought a small soldering gun to fix the A/C in his Jetta! I will update with how it qoes.

A follow up question - seemingly in the same time-frame as I first noticed this problem, the brightness of my screen stopped going to 'maximum' even though it is set to do so when plugged in. For a few weeks, I could get the brightness back to 100% if I unplugged and replugged in. Now it stays at a dimmed level regardless.

Do you think this is related?

Could be, but there is also the possibility that is it your CCFL Bulb or your inverter. Replace the known broken parts first, then re-evaluate. Sometimes, doing to much at once, confuses the issues....Hope this helps. Thanks for accepting my answer. :-)
