MacBook Air A1304 Trackpad Problem

MacBook Air A1304

Good morning everybody!

I experience very weird trackpad behaviour in my A1304. Trackpad gets stucked on single click. When i turn my machine and i do not touch trackpad and operate only with external mouse everything is fine, but if i just once touch trackpad it is like operating with constantly depressed left click.

I have tried may different solutions: hard drive and permissions repair, SMC and PRAM resets, clean Mac OS install, cleaning the connectors, etc.

It brings me to the conclusion that I need to replace the topcase, unless you may have any other idea how to deal with this problem.

I also looked for a definite answer if A1237 topcase will fit my A1304. I have found this thread: Can I use parts from a A1237? but there is no conclusion what was the final solutions. I have 1,6 processor so maybe that helps to get final knowledge! Does anyone have experience on this one?

How can I identify my top case verison? Where can i find its part number?

Thank you very much for your help!

Try reseating the trackpad cable. Here's how: MacBook Air Models A1237 and A1304 Trackpad Control Cable Replacement

UPDATE

Apple MacBook Air "Core 2 Duo" 1.6 13" (NVIDIA) Specs Identifiers: Late 2008 - MB543LL/A - MacBookAir2,1 - A1304 - 2253*

The above MAY be your Book. Flip it over and remove the back and battery. This should give you access to the trackpad which is removable. There are eight very small screws that hold it in place and position it. First try just loosening then and move the pad around a bit to see if you have any debris stuck in it. That failing, go ahead and remove it and clean the socket and underside and see if that works. The topcase part # should be 661-5739. I wish it was the case. Unfortunately may MBA has trackpad which is welded into the topcase so there is nothing I can do about it. But still my question is valid: is A1237 top case compatible with my machine?

It turned out that the microswitch on the clickbar got stucked. I took a long needle and after couple of attempts managed to pop it out. TA-DA! Everything works perfectly!

Could you please explain how and where did you exactly find that microswitch? I have the same problem but there are so many switches and cables that I am not really sure which one do you mean. Did you take out the track pad or its somewhere on the surface of it (after you take out the battery)?

Thanks a lot!

Hi Filip,

Sorry to get back to you so late, but I did not visit this thread since May.

The microswitch is on the bottom side of clickbar. You need to remove the screw that is in the middle of metal bezel covering clickbar (after removing battery) so you can see the microswitch. In the center of it is the liitle rod that supposed to be moving and clicking. Try to pop it back with a needle. Hope that helps. If not, give me a shout.
