A mid-size Jeep SUV, sold from 2006 to 2010. Produced in both XK (gas) and XH (diesel) variants.

What could be leaking oil if the oil leaks only when it’s running?

So I bought my jeep at an auction and I’m replacing one thing at a time, the diagnosis reads a lot of misfires so I replayed all 8 spark plugs, 2 odd the coil packs and the cam shaft position sensor and now when I turn it over oil is leaking bad from somewhere under the passenger side of the engine, I can’t tell where it’s actually leaking from but the mechanics wouldn’t even diagnosis it because it was leaking too much oil?? What could it be?

@amydunlap what exact year and engine size is this? You are not saying if it leaked oil before you replaced the cam shaft position sensor. Double check your work to make sure you did not forget to tighten or connect something. Normally I would have said its a seal but if it leaks that much you are most likely blowing the oil out of your block somewhere.

If its only leaking when running you've got a crack/hole fairly high up on the engine block
