My phone drowned in water

That's a bad thing. I'm not an expert but I've got some researched info. #1 Don't turn it on hit any buttons etc. If the battery is useable get it out as well as the sim and SD. Then dry it as fast as possible with a dry absorbent cloth. get as much water off as possible. Don't shake or use compressed air.

Never put a phone or any electronic in rice etc. it doesn't work. And the starchy rice dust getting into your phone will do more damage. Pro services are the best. They have chemical baths that won't do damage but will remove the water and any contamination. They often offer data recovery if the phone can' be saved.

One of the problems is long term. If you dry it out and it works, corroded connections or leaked electronic compounds can cause future failure.

My Cricket feature debut Flip spent the night in the rain on the driveway. When I found it I did what I described above and placed it in a food dryer at 98deg F same as body temp. I kept a thermometer in with it to make sure it did not get too hot. after two days I fired it up and have had no problems since. That was months ago. The battery has a been wet indicator on it that is now red. Water did get on the indicator sticker but very little got in the phone.

The best pro recommendations are not to test the phone until it is absolutely dry. Most test too soon. There are many wet phone myths out there and junk desiccant kits also. High heat is bad, any thing dusty is bad. Some desiccants are dusty and corrosive. I've read about submerging a ocean water soaked phone in pure distilled water to rinse of the salts and then drying but this is above my pay grade. When water gets into electronic components there are other chemicals in there also.
