To address your second set of questions:

Focus in on the mount points / is the root then you have Macintosh Pro your boot volume, then MacintoshP Data.

That’s the partitions of the single storage space of 2TB your system offers.

As to the physical aspects of the storage, you need to not think SSD which most of our systems use. Here we are looking at the raw Flash modules! A SSD has these as well but also a controller. Here the controller logic is within the T2 chip. Review Step 8 in this iMac Pro拆解 the last image shows the raw Flash Chips. Now look at Step 1 here MacBook Pro 14" 2021 芯片信息 the Yellow marked chips are a newer denser version of the same setup, here soldered to the logic board Vs held within a removable module.

Thanks Dan. I want to get 2pcs of SSD from Apple to upgrade my iMac pro. so I want to confirm if there are 2x 1TB SSD in my machine or 2x 2TB SSD. I have no idea if Apple may build raid mode in iMac pro. from the teardown guide, I should have 2x 1TB. will purchase 2x 2TB modules soon and update after I make it.

@aloms - I’m so sorry, Apple doesn’t offer upgrades of their Flash modules in this system even the newer Mac Pro and Studio systems which use similar Flash modules are not upgradable.

Apple will only replace as a repair and only the same size.

I think you have a better option and a lot cheaper! I would remove the second volume your drive has making it a single storage space and then get an external SSD or if you need deeper storage get a USB-C/Thunderbolt RAID box. Make sure you’ve backed up your stuff and then use Disk Utility to delete the data volume and then resize the primary boot partition to the max size.

I have a Mac Pro Trashcan which faces a similar issue as it only offers a single SSD connection internally. A dual drive configuration is your best option!

@aloms - FYI: just found this reference iMac Pro SSD upgrade?

As it turns out Apple now offers a upgrade kit for the Intel 2019 Mac Pro system. Warning very expensive! No options for the iMac Pro.

hi Dan, I checked with Apple staff after I provided my sn to them. they told me the 4TB kit is available for ordering. that's why I want to upgrade my storage from 2TB to 4TB. The whole machine is ok now but the SSD is the only one I want to use from brand new.

@aloms - I think they are confused as here in the states they don’t offer any upgrades for the iMac only the Cheese grater system.

How much are they charging?

It's a 2TB solid state drive; out of 2TB, you have 1.8TB unused/available. Also keep in mind that even if your solid state drive was to be empty, it would show less than the rated capacity, as a good part of the missing storage is being used by your operating system, also the way the SSD was formatted.

To add to @cosmin2071 answer, you have two partition's the boot partition > Macintosh Pro < and a second > MacintoshP Data <. The drive is 2TB in size but with only 1.8 TB available as the file system is using the remainder of the space. Each partition is also broken down into additional volumes as well.
