Hard Drive Upgrade Needed to correct start up error.

I have a Mac model A1278. It came with a 160 GB hard drive. The hard drive is full and I am getting a start up memory is full error when I start up my Mac. I would like to upgrade to a larger (500GB, 750GB) hard drive. What hard drive do you reccommend? Will this take care of my start up memory error? Do I need anything else to fix this issue??
