Hi @pietervdd,

An intermittent charging problem could be due to a faulty DC-In jack.

Not booting could be due to a discharged battery as it cannot be charged.

What can sometimes happen is that the centre +ve connector in the jack, fractures internally and this opens the power path, between the charger and the motherboard.

Try connecting the charger to the laptop and then gently and slowly try to move the charger's output cable plug, up and down and side to side, inside the jack and check if the charging light comes on occasionally.

If it doesn't come on at all, you may have to use a DMM's (digital multimeter) Ohmmeter function and check the DC-In jack for continuity from its input to its output connection on the motherboard. Both the +ve inner connector and the the -ve outer ring connector of the jack. Alternatively use the DMM's voltmeter function and check that there's 20V Dc on the jack's motherboard connection when the charger is connected - see image below for test points

If the jack is faulty it cannot be repaired, it has to be replaced. Search online for Asus Rog Strix G513IE DC-In jack to find suppliers that suit you best.

Regarding the cmos battery, nowadays a lot of laptops don't have a separate cmos battery anymore as the function previously performed by the cmos battery i.e. 3V DC voltage to maintain the BIOS settings when the laptop is off, is now being done by a 3V power tap off feed from the main battery in the laptop.

If you wish to perform a power refresh to reset the BIOS etc, disconnect the main battery from the motherboard (you don't have to remove it, just disconnect it) and then press and hold the laptop's Power button for 30 seconds and release. Then reconnect the battery to the motherboard etc.

Thanks for the info.

The strange thing is that i charged a bit yesterday and after a few minutes it powered on.
So o shutdown the laptop, and let it charging. But it stopped after a while. An usb-c charger worked also for a while but now nothing reacts to it.

@pietervdd

If you manage to get it to charge and to turn on, create a battery report to check the condition of the battery.

When you have the report, compare the Design Capacity value versus the Full Charge Capacity value. For a good battery they should be nearly the same value.

You can work out the condition as a percentage by using the formula:

Full Charge capacity value x 100 ÷ Design Capacity value.

If it is <35% the battery may be failing

Hello,

i got it turned on, battery is ok.

The strange thing is that when you get it ons, and connect the battery and so on ik works perfect . When you shut it down after a wile it drops dead.

You need to disconnect the batterij and then wait untill it is completly drained.

connect the a/c adapter and it will go on again.

Strange situation
