Home button not working: found the problem but can't solve it

I cracked my iPod Touch 2G screen, so I decided to buy a new digitizer. I installed it without problems, right tools etc. When I completed the replacement, I found out my home button wasn't working anymore. After houres of trying and searching, I slapped my face when I found out what was wrong. On this picture:

you can see what part I'm missing. It's a tiny golden spring, responsible for the home button. Reason I slapped my face: I actually saw that part on my desk, didn't think it was anything important and threw it away. There is no way of retrieving it. So, thanks to this, my 280€ iPod is not working, also stuck on white screen of death, all because of a liiitle gold spring.

My question: can I fix this? Can I replace this part?

Anyone who can help: Thank you very, very much.

I answered a question just like this today, but I post it again here for you and for better searching for anyone else with problem.

Home button spring can be purchased on Ebay for $9.99

Home Button Spring for iPod Touch 2nd/3rd Generation

That was the only place I found that sells it.

The diagram for the home button is like this: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/215... In that image when the digitizer is in place 1 and 2 are in contact with each other and 3 and 4 are in contact with each other. The button just completes the final connection.

If you don't want to pay $9.99 then you can just solder a thin wire between pad 3 and pad 4... that's really all the spring is doing (connecting 3 and 4). The home button when pressed will make the final contact.
