Power Button Does not work, MacBook turns on when plugged in.

Pressing the power button does nothing. Plugging in the charger it turns on instantly without me touch the power button.

This sounds like the power button is stuck down or not working at all. Did you have a liquid spill at some point

I would slightly dampen a cotton swab (Q Tip) with some kitchen cleaner spray, not to much! As you don’t want the cleaner to enter inside. Wipe the button area as you press and release the button to exercise it.

No signs of liquid damage and this didn’t work it might be worth noting that the MacBook is running super slow too, could it be the battery is bad

@asdassdasdsa - If you can install this gem of an App it will allow you to see the battery’s health and it’s charging CoconutBattery post a snapshot of the apps main window with the battery tab opened and the charger plugged in.

I would also restart the system and press the D key to enter into the onboard diagnostics. Let’s see what it tells us. Post the errors here as well.

@danj So after more digging around I found that the ribbon cable for the trackpad is kind of damaged, the trackpad still works but would that be enough for the MacBook to maybe boot into safe mode and disable the power button? Also I've learned that I cannot turn on the MacBook once it is turned off unless I unplug the battery.

@asdassdasdsa - Things aren’t always so simple a messed up cable can cause you grief! Here’s the needed part MacBook Pro 13" Retina (Late 2013-Mid 2014) Trackpad Cable both connect to the same logic so if the signal is messed up via the trackpad it can effect the keyboard. Using an external USB keyboard are you able to run the diagnostics? As that will tell you what has failed.

The only thing that doesn't work is the power button.
