Asus ROG G14 suddenly shut down and now won't charge or power on

I was on a Microsoft Teams meeting when my G14 suddenly shut down. I tried turning it back on but no luck. I thought maybe the battery was just dead so I plugged in the AC adapter and no charge. I let it sit for a few hours, held the power button for 40+ seconds, it turned on but for less than 5 minutes and it shut off again. I thought maybe it was bad battery so I bought a replacement, but the new battery would not charge, the charge indicator would not light up. I let it sit for a few days and it turned on. This time it lasted 3+ hours. I ran a battery health check on the original battery and it seemed healthy, this laptop is only 2 years old. After I tried to turn it on again then the same thing happened where it would not turn on or even charge. What could a possible solution for this be? I have not tried changing the CMOS battery as some other people have suggested for similar problems, I will try that and get back, but for those who have experienced similar issues and problems, how did you resolve this? The warranty has expired on my G14 so I am trying to avoid taking it to a repair shop, but if I can't find a way to fix it myself then I will have no other choice, thank you.

I also want to state that I have not modified my laptop in anyway and the AC adapter is outputting the correct voltage at around 20.4V. Model number is GA401Q

Did you ever find a solution to this? This has happened to my asus zenbook too. The laptop suddenly shuts down (when plugged in) and won’t turn on again. I had to buy a new charger, which solved the issue but it’s happened again a year later, so I guess I’ll have to buy another charger! I’ve never had this with other laptops, it’s very annoying.

Hi @erickrojas

If the laptop doesn't indicate that it is charging when a known working charger is connected it may be a problem with the DC-In jack (supplier example only).

What sometimes happens is that the +ve centre pin of the jack breaks internally and this opens the path between the charger and the motherboard, so that the battery can't be charged and also that no power is available to the motherboard.

To verify this the laptop would need to be opened and the jack tested for continuity between its input (+ve and -ve) and output (+ve and -ve).

If it is faulty then it cannot be repaired, it has to be replaced

Would this also affect the battery not supplying power to the motherboard? When it did turn on for the 3+ hours I was able to fully charge the battery. After that the laptop would not turn on once again but the battery still should have had some charge left.

Looks like there's some problem in the charging/power circuit as it should always show that there's power connected when the charger is connected.

You may need the schematics to find out.

since the new battery is lasting for 3 hours, i think the problem will be around the IC charging circuit. The laptop doesn't work with AC power and only work with power from the battery. it's not complicated problem, but if you doesn't have any microsoldering experience before, i suggest just drop it to your local laptop repair store. (its not gonna cost much since the problem is quite simple)

Sorry I wasn't clear, the new battery did not charge at all. I wasn't able to turn it on with the new battery, I just swapped the original back in and it turned on and charged fully. I used it for a bit more than 3 hours then shut it off normally and after that it would not turn on or charge again.

@erickrojas oh i see, if you got the new battery officially from asus or some trustworthy seller, i suggest to swap the old to the new one, just to eliminate the chance that the old battery could be broken, then you can try to unplug the wall adapter. uninstall the battery, Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds, re-install the battery, plug in the wall adapter, and try to turn on the laptop.

this trick has saved many laptop with this similar problem, so you should try it
