Audio cable connector is loose

When I plug in the audio cable to the headphone socket from my [sound source] the sound is sometimes intermittent and changes or drops out when I move the cable slightly or even move my head. It seems like the "fingers" inside the headphone cable socket are loose. I want to disassemble the left headphone and hopefully 'pinch' the fingers back together again for a firmer 'grip' on the audio cable. I'm guessing that I use the small rigid plastic 'spunger ??' to gently pry up the ear cup and gain access. I don't want to screw the headphones up accidentally!! Sony WH-H900N model

Hi,

If you remove the foam cover you reveal the 5 screws that hold the speaker assembly to the headphones. Once they are unscrewed you can open up slowly. Be careful as the speaker is still connected to the motherboard and you don't want to rip them off the pads.

Hope it helps!

Thanks so much. Gently prying the earpad off of the left phone was easy; I only found 4 screws initially, but then f-i-n-a-l-l-y found the 5th screw. I had to also unscrew the [mini headphone jack/charge plug] board and disconnect the connector cable for same, in order to gain access to the jack receptacle. I pinched the contacts in a bit, but have since discovered that the phone casing itself was preventing the headphone jack from fully seating in its receptacle. I'm hoping a little 'judicious' grinding of the casing will allow full access . Also, almost incidentally, I'm ordering a bluetooth transmitter to connect to my older iMac desktop, so that I can access the computers sound offerings via bluetooth wireless in case that the headphone jack 'fix' doesn't work out permanently. Many, many thanks for your kind help. Kindest Regards.

I used a small countersink drill-twirling by hand-to gently enlarge the plastic case outer section of the headphone jack input, thereby allowing the plug to fully seat in the actual jack, along with the previously mentioned "push-in/pinch" of the actual metal contacts in the jack receptacle itself, allowing full normal contact. Now a small wrinkle; there is one small white wire from the electronics board[s] that has a small sensor at the other end. This senses the ambient sound level. The sensor had come loose from the outer plastic casing where it had been secured by some sort of mild touch adhesive and the framework of the plastic casing. So after re-securing the headphone/charge board to the main assembly, I added a little tape to the sensor back, used a toothpick to place just tiny dabs of elmer's glue to the casing, and screwed the sensor in place with the tape.

Then I replaced the 5 screws holding the assemblys together, popped on the ear cup, and I was done with the repair. I first tested the Bluetooth reception, using my iPhone with stereo music; all was well. Then, the important test; I plugged the jack from the computer into the headphones and listened to regular stereo music from iTunes- all was excellent as in the pre-problem days. I also opened a [multi-channel] movie on YouTube and that was excellent as well, the "multi-channel" sound from the movie (Hart'sWar) was perfectly mixed in the two speakers in the L/R ear cups. All very successful. As a final test, I've plugged in the charging cable and have the requisite LED showing a battery charge in progress. All very successful; I hope this is of some help to someone else as well, and, again, thank you so very much for your assistance. !! Kindest Regards again.
