dryer that is getting way too hot

I have an older Maytag de107 dryer that is getting way too hot. Red hot and stays red. If I’m reading right the dryer only had two thermostats one is the cycling and the other is hi temp thermostat. I replaced the hi temp it didn’t help. Took the heater element and it’s case out checked the coil no breaks and no short. So see another thermostat up front along the air exhaust and fan is that the cycling thermostat? And is there any more that im not seeing? The lint is cleaned out. But I noticed like a pile of ? I want to say burnt shavings of what I don’t know at the back of the heater element casing. Please help don’t know what to do next. Replace the cycling thermo??

@edges the cycling thermostat is definitely what I would change next. The hi temp will stay high without a functioning cycling thermostat. My concern are those "burnt shavings". Take a couple of pictures if you can of what this all looks like and post those with your QUESTION so we can see what you see. Also, do not forget to check the airflow , so check your blower and check your exhaust vent.

Here is the service manual for the DE series Maytag Dryer DE Series Not the greatest but a start. the thermostats are usually in the blower housing.
