Charger blew but the board looks OK- how can I be sure?

My macbook was out of battery so i went to charge it.

My charger blew (popped, bang, adapter broke up) so I replaced it with a brand new 85w magsafe charger.

The charger cable connection light wont come on to indicating its charging BUT the laptop screen still comes up with the empty battery/needs charging graphic suggesting the laptop is still ok.

I've opened it up and I can't see anything black or blown up.

Thoughts?

no light on the magsafe would indicate a dc-in board or mainboard issue

@Adam Pritchard - how about installing this gem of an app to look deeper into your batteries health and your charger CoconutBattery post a snapshot of the main window here for us to see.

@Adam Pritchard - Then your battery is fully discharged 😞

You’ll need to replace the MacBook Pro 15" Retina (Mid 2012-Early 2013) MagSafe 2 DC-In Board to hopefully get the MagSafe charger to charge your system. Otherwise you’ll need to inspect the logic board for burnt or damaged components. At that point you may need to get your system to someone who has deeper skills.

I'd check around the charging connector for blown components like fuses etc.

Thanks both.

I have tried an SMC reset ("Shift-Control-Option on the left-hand side keyboard and the power button simultaneously for 10 seconds")

And the power momentarily returns - enough to see what apps etc I had open. Lasts about 20 seconds then switches off.

Battery % indicator does suggest 20% battery still (tho I think this might be faulty itself)
