After battery replacement, iPhone does not boot, nothing on screen

Hey there,

I did a battery replacement following iFixit guide. Unfortunately, the adhesive was super strong. I used a guitar string like suggested in the guide.

In the image they only use the floss from one side, I used the guitar string from both sides.

I reassembled everything, but phone wont turn on. Backlight is on, sometimes I can see apple logo.

I noticed some flex cables on the top side (where floss is not used!) which have some silver scratches. Is it possible that I broke these flex cables?

One goes to the vibrator siwtch and volume controls, the other one I am not sure?

Connecting to a mac finder only says "There is a problem with the iPhone “iPhone” that requires it to be updated or restored."

@magnusja Could you take a good quality and up close picture of the suspected damage? A damage to those flex cables could definitely be a cause issues. Adding images to existing questions.

Meh, looks to me like a little bit of paint got scraped off the flex cable. My best guess would be to vote that it's okay. The FPC connectors look pretty good too.

@magnusja As @dadibrokeit said, looks like a scrape and not terminal damage. The only other thing I can think of is as @imicrosoldering explained, you have been unfortunate and caused long screw damage :(

Sorry for the delay. I added some pictures of the screw hole (not sure if you can see anything, let me know if you need better pictures).

What strikes me as odd is that I did not screw anything back together. I plugged in the new battery, then the display and it wouldn't turn on. No screws.

What you have described sounds like what we call long screw damage where the wrong size screw has been inserted in the shield that covers the LCD connectors. If you can, take and post a close-up pic of the screw hole in the red square.

I used a proper camera to capture the hole, but not sure if you can recognize anything on the pictures.

This strikes me as odd because I did not screw anything back together yet. So this must have happened when unscrewing. I switched the display a couple of times. Could it be that I screwed in the wrong screw already ages ago and it just now destroyed the logic board after unscrewing again?

@magnusja It’s not very easy to tell from the pictures (LSD can be hard to get proper on screen without a microscope), but as @dadibrokeit says above, I’d also probably stop worrying about LSD. I’ve never had LSD damage happen over time, it’s either there or it’s not.

One thing I’ve noticed (though very slightly) is the top liquid indicator kinda shows a hint of moisture detection. That could be something to check, any of the other indicators show something?

The top flex is the power flex which if you used a metal guitar string could have been damaged. I’d leave the battery unglued and buy a new power flex and fit it. Test it with the battery unstuck and if everything is ok, stick it back in with adhesive.
