My Blendtec Stealth Blender started sparking and then stopped working!

The blender shot out some sparks, then smoke and stopped working. Does anyone know the cause and have a fix? Could it be the carbon brushes?

If water or other fluids entered the base and not removed, a short circuit condition could have created damage. If the blender becomes jammed leading to overloading the motor, overheating may occur. Brushes wear out and rarely spark to the point of seeing it as less pressure is exerted on the brush to commutator from a worn out set of brushes. Most, if not all small appliances have a thermal fuse wired into the power line to open when overloading occurs to prevent a fire. These thermal fuses are usually covered in a removable woven shield and easily measured with a multimeter for resistance; a blown fuse registers as a zero display while a good fuse should display 000 or 001 (continuity). If you disassemble this blender (disconnected from outlet) examine everything for signs of severe damage, burned wiring, charring, melted wires/parts to determine if repairable or not.

@notbroken Thank you, I will open the unit and check the fuse wire. The unit has not been used that much, so I'm assuming it was an overload condition as opposed to normal wear and tear.

I took the blender apart today. Upon breakdown, a broken washer/spacer (looks like nylon) fell out of the motor. I disassembled the brush holder and lightly sanded the commutator (which was almost black. I reassembled the motor and I was able to start the blender, but it was still sparking and making a stuttering noise. I should probably replace the brushes, right? As for the washer/spacer. I'll call Blendtec and see if they'll sell me a replacement or give me the spec sheet on it so I can source it somewhere else. Fingers crossed, it's a $1500 blender!

If you're familiar with brushed motors, brushes wear down from normal use. If they're very worn, the brush spring may not have enough pressure to maintain contact between brush and commutator resulting in more spark than normal. Check to be sure the motor turns freely with brushes the only things preventing free rotation. Hopefully parts will restore your blender.

@notbroken Thank you. I ordered the new brushes yesterday. I just hope that broken washer/spacer will not cause the commutator to spin off axis.

Where did you find the brushes? I have 2 blenders that need them and the only place I can find carrying the right part number is from a site in another language with no translation feature. Thanks in advance!

Wow well done! Are you able to share where you found the brushes? I just spoke to Blendtec Support and they are still not repairing out-of-warranty items, nor would they offer any way for me to buy parts myself. If you have a source you'd be willing to share, I bet a lot of folks would be very appreciative. Thanks.

Sorry for the delay. I found the brushes on Amazon. Unfortunately, I can't post a screen shot or photo of the item on Amazon, but here's the info: Amazon description is "Replacement Brush Mechanism, 120V, PK2". Th vendor/manufacturer is Ametek Lamb and the price is $10.07.

Here's the link: https://www.amazon.com/Replacement-Brush...
