iPhone is stuck in infinite loop when plugged in after screen repair.

I have an old iPhone 5 which I wanted to fix. The screen was smashed so I put in a new screen, but because the case was bent, it didn’t fit. I took the donor phone, and switched logic boards, which was all fine. I did mix up two screws but it didn’t affect anything, everything worked perfectly fine. After a while, I took out the sim tray to add a SIM card, and the phone shut off. It hasn’t turned on since. When I plug a charger in, it turns on, goes to the Apple logo, shuts down and does it all over again. I have tried putting it into recovery or dfu mode but it doesn’t go there. Also when I move the screen (opened the phone of course) up slightly or down, it flickers and lines appear. Is something possibly shorting? Or maybe the digitiser metal is touching something? I would like to get it fixed after I put in so much effort. The phone isn’t worth for me to go to a professional. Thanks for reading.

Hi Farssad,

When diagnosing an issue that could have many different causes, it's best to divide and conquer. What we've got to do is pin down the part that's causing you problems, and at that point we'll know how to fix it.

First off, I'd make sure the motherboard is still okay by moving it back to the original case. Connect everything back up and set the screen on top and power it on. Check all the functions and put in the SIM card and verify you're all good.

If that works, then we know it's something to do with the other case. You mentioned it's a donor phone, so presumably there was something wrong with it. Granted, it could just be something like being iCloud locked, but you didn't say.

You also mentioned swapping two screws; which ones were they? If one was too long and got screwed into the wrong place it could damage something below such as the motherboard circuit board or a flex cable, for instance. So check for anything below the two screws that got mixed up and verify nothing got damaged.

If everything works when the motherboard is in the old, bent case, then we'll have to go through a process of elimination on the new case to figure out what's going on. Give that a try and let us know what happens and we'll go from there.
