CUH-1115A Boots from safe mode but looses signal randomly

Hi,

I have a PS4 which is acting very strangely. I take the power cable out, wait a while and put it back and boot up - pulsing blue light.

I press the power button and boot into safe mode - works

I select any option within safe mode and it performs the function, restarts and boots properly - white light on and PS menu displays

Randomly loose display signal - console white light still on - controller seems to sync out

Have to manually turn the PS4 off

Turn it back on - blue light pulsing no display

What is going on with this thing?

Have you tried a total restore? Or a manual update with a usb stick? Also, regarding the image issues. Is the hdmi port ok?

I have tried a full system initialize from usb - and the display doesnt conk out when doing that. It reboots and comes to the main screen - and then maybe a min - or maybe 10 mins randomly the display disappears. The HDMI port seems perfectly fine as I can see the display - in safe mode or when it reboots into the main menu

@tnkaf has it been opened before? If not I'd go down the cleaning route to rule out heat issues. Clean out dust and replace the thermal paste on the processor.

@strongbow I did open it up...blew air and brushed out the fan to clear all the dust. Didnt go all the way down to replacing the thermal paste...should I?

@tnkaf if it hasn’t been replaced before then it will probably be dry and no longer taking heat away. I’d get some and replace it.

Ok...but do u think this blanking out randomly (white light still on) or pulsing blue light on normal power up could be heat related?

Frustrating that it boots into safe mode no issues and from there it restarts itself after choosing a selection and loads up normally.

It could be an internal issue or an HDMI cord issue. Try to change the HDMI cord or use a different TV and if this doesn't work then open it up and look around.

If it was the TV or HDMI - then there wouldnt be any display at all. That is not the case. Also, I have tried the exact same setup on a different PS4 and no issues there

You can try to open it up and look for anything that looks broken or damaged.
