Replaced screen myself, kernel panic

I wouldn't assume an incompatibility right off the bat. There just aren't that many variants on MacBook screens, so it if says it's the right one for yours, then there shouldn't be any issues with electrical or mechanical compatibility.

Whenever I'm in your situation where things aren't working right after I've made a repair, my next step is to go back over everything I've done and recheck my work. In your case it's possible a cable isn't quite connected fully and is getting jarred loose when you move the lid, or perhaps one is getting pinched in the process.

My best suggestion at this point would be to open it back up and go through the guide one step at a time and verify that all the cabling is in place and the connections are solid. Maybe an antenna connector came loose and it's bouncing around shorting on something it shouldn't touch, or the display flex cable is getting pinched and causing problems. You'll definitely want to unplug the display connector and check the pins for any damage; get a magnifying glass and look for any bent or broken pins on both the cable and the motherboard connectors.

Since your laptop wasn't having those problems before you replaced the screen, we have to assume they're related to your repair, so that's the place to start. If the screen was incompatible you wouldn't be seeing a good picture on it, which doesn't seem to be the case.

So go back through your work with a fine tooth comb and I'm sure you'll figure out what's going on with it.
