So I have an xbox one s I'm replacing the hard drive in. I'm buying the same exact one from Amazon, a Seagate 1tb laptop hard drive. Do I need to connect this to my pc or anything to format it before using it, will I be able to format it once it's connected to the xbox or will it be good to go out of the box?

You will need to format it using a special tool on the PC. Xbox One is not designed to initialize the drive on its own.

Most likely, you will be able to format it after installing the drive, but I would recommend formatting it on your computer just in case. By the way, the Xbox One S uses the NTFS file storage system, so make sure you don't format the drive as FAT32 or FAT64
