TV with black shadow down the middle, any suggestions?

I have a Panasonic LCD TV that has gained a black shadow all the way down the middle of the screen. I've added some photos so you can sort of see what we are dealing with. Switched on a white video so you can clearly see what's dark. Overall the middle section of the screen is much darker than the rest.

Do you think this is fixable… with a replacement part, or something to do with internal wires and connecting to the screen? Or do you think this is unfixable and I should just throw this TV away (trying my utmost to avoid that happening).

Phoebe Humphries, looks like you have a (at least one) failed backlight strip. For that repair you would have to disassemble your TV and remove the LCD assembly. Then disassemble that one and replace the strips. Sounds terrible but not that bad of a job. Only issue is the size of your LCD screen which will be pretty thin so get somebody to lend you a hand moving it etc. Keep all your “plastic sheets” (those are diffusers and polarizing sheets in exactly the same order and direction.
