Why is my laptop screen dimming?

So my installed a new screen for my laptop. It works great at first but my second reboot I encountered this problem. It only dims when the laptop is prompting for for user pin code. The screen works when I entered BIOS config mode. It just so happens that it dims when logging into windows.

I already ruled out a blown backlight fuse because I can access the BIOS. Not sure if this is a hardware or software problem.

Edit 26/12/2021: Just found out that it works when I entered safe mode. This could maybe have to do something with the LCD Lid Sensor.

Jason Faustino also make sure you have appropriate resolution settings for your display selected. This does not sound like a hardware issue since it functions in safe mode.

Hi,

What is the model number of the laptop?

If it works OK in safe mode then there is a driver problem as only generic Windows drivers are loaded in safe mode and not specific hardware drivers. (video drivers?)

Try connecting an external monitor to the laptop and check if the problem occurs on it as well.

If the external monitor stays on alter the lid settings and check if it is the switch

Model number is Lenovo s145-IWL LNVNB161216. So I entered safe mode and change the lid settings. Worked! But I also found out that the dimming was also being caused by a faulty keyboard. The laptop was dropped from a table. I am now looking for keyboard replacements hoping it’ll fix the laptop.

Also checked the external monitors. It is working so drivers are good to go. I think this is more of a hardware damages from the drop.

Thanks!!! Lid settings really helped.

@Jason Faustino,

This is the first mention that the laptop had been dropped as that would have changed my answer somewhat.

Here's the hardware maintenance manual for the laptop.

Go to p.59 to view the necessary pre-requisite steps and the the procedure to remove the upper case. the keyboard is part of the upper case assembly.

Here's a link to the parts for the laptop which may help. Click on Select Commodity > C-cover with keyboard (155) to find all the keyboards compatible with the model.

The keyboards are country specific so it may take a while to find one applicable to your model.

Check on the back of the assembly for a part number. Once you find it, either on the assembly or in the list, search online using the part number ONLY to get results for suppliers.
