New battery apparently failed

I replaced my iPhone 6s battery after ordering a new one from ifixit.com. After following instructions to the T and a good install with no problems I plugged my phone in and charged as per the instructions. After removing the phone from the charger it was once again dead after 4-5 hours with no use and will not charge again. Had I have known that it would react the same way as the old battery I would have immediately backed it up on my computer! I was waiting to sync it as instructed before backing up.

Please Help!!!

Yes it did show charging after being plugged in. As it discharged over the 4-5 hour period it became warm to the touch as it was getting close to 0%.

I plugged it back in to charge and nothing

You may have just gotten unlucky and it was a battery that bearly passed QA but the heat killed it in some way

@Rex Jackson yeah contact the battery seller they should send you another one free as it failed on first use

@Rex Jackson If you want to try a bump charge you can follow what I said in the following comment. It explains a little about how lithium batteries work and how to recover a battery that will not charge. usually with about a 80% ish success rate.

Also when you get the replacement battery put it in WITHOUT turning the phone on. charge it while the phone is off and using a volt meter check it before charge, after charge, & after a couple hours. If you lose more than 0.2v from the full charge of about 3.8v-4.2v(depends upon battery controller and capacity) while the phone is off and no longer plugged into charger but connect to the phone than it may be a faulty which you than may need to reflow a solder point somewhere or replace a resistor. just look for corrosion.

@johnkangta is right about a short. From experience with the 6s the faulty component will be the Wi-Fi IC or one of the two charging IC’s.

For retrieving your data I would suggest purchasing a new battery than use a program called 3uTools it is a free program that will back up your phone without the need to sync with iTunes so it will be a lot quicker.

Retrieving your data is your first priority so don’t mess with the phone till you have the new battery.

Another thing you could consider is looking for a shop around your area that sells batteries and ask them if they could supply one that is fully charged or better still buy a battery test and charge board and use the battery you already purchased. They are only about $10 and this will ensure you have plenty of charge for retrieving your data.

The issues is “your phone is shorted" no matter how much battery you buy will be drained to 0.01V or to 0V so when the battery is less than 2.6V will not charging symbol but sometimes will show apple logo then black screen repeatedly once connected to charger…..so let the short fixed first YOU WILL ENJOY THE

This is not necessarily true! A bad battery will self drain converting the energy into heat. Also the battery has a small control board on it if I remember correctly specifically designed to prevent a overdraw so that it can still be charged. However this little board can also go bad from a bad solder point because of resistance which create a hot spot and burn the solder connection. This is normally why a new battery would fail so fast.

part 2

Even if the battery is overdrawn you can using a voltage meter test the voltage. If it is below the 2.6v threshold you can use a same voltage source to bump it up to the minimum 2.6v so it will charge. This can be risky if you over heat either battery so I use a 18650 battery and connect it only for a max of 5 seconds and let them cool for a couple minutes. Repeat until the resting voltage is 2.6v and than plug the battery back into the phone and connect the charger. This is obviously while the battery that is low is disconnected from the phone as you don't want to damage the phone if something happens and also you don't want to have it pulling even a little power. When you get it above 2.6v which should happen pretty fast and within 2-5 bump charge cycles you need to charge it fast as the voltage is mostly only what is called a surface charge which can dissipate over the course of a few minutes or hours.

part 3

If the battery you are using to bump it is fully charged I recommend you use it until the voltage is below 3.0v as the difference between them is what causes the heat to happen faster.
