usb ports are not working properly if usb pen inserted completely

when inserting mouse or external memory sticks, they are not spotted. If I take it ot just a little, they are spotted and working. the problem is that if I move the laptop, then the connection is lost.

how can I fix it?

Update (11/02/2021)

Coudn’i it be that the pins need just to be pushed a little bit so that the contact between port and jack is more stable?

Your system only has USB 2.0 (480 MBit/s) by chance are you plugging in a USB 3.0 (4.8 Gbit/s) {also called USB 3.1 just to confuse you!} Cable/device?

One of the issues between 2.0 and 3.0 is a set of extra pins in it connection!

See if a USB 2.0 cable/device works. I’m suspecting the extra pins are shorting out when you push the cable in.

Thanks Dan. However the problem is happening with an external hard disk that was working perfectly till a few days ago (same thing for a mouse). So I do not think is a USB 2.0 vs a USB 3.0 issue…

@stefanochi - If that's the case your logic board will need repairs as the ports are port of it and the logic within it might be messed up.

@stefanochi - A bent pin which is shorting is what I was thinking at the start but if both ports are having problems that tells me its either a bad cable or something deeper.

Cables are OK because are working properly on other pc's
