Can I switch it off with only the home button working?

I replaced the battery but had some issues getting the old battery out - it exploded dramatically and I ran out of the room. I was eventually able to get it out and replace after cleaning up the mess it had made. Amazingly the phone came back on but whilst removing the old battery I broke the cable running from the volume controls across the top. The phone is on but the power button doesn’t work to shut it down and the screen is not responsive. How can I switch it off so I can open it again? Or do I have to wait for the battery to drain? I’ll replace the broken cable first and check all cables are connected then I see what else might need replacing.
