DFU shows recovery mode..can I boot into mac utilities with usb drive?

Gave my macbook air 2018 to the apple store coz it wasn’t starting up, as expected they said it ‘s a logic board issue that needs to be replaced and I didn’t do it. But when I got my laptop back I noticed that it was powering on but stuck in this mode on Apple configurator.

I don’t have access to another mac atm to try using the apple configurator again it’ll be a couple wees before my friend with his mac can meet me, so I was wondering would the laptop still let me boot into mac utilities via usb drive and install macOS that way or there is no choice but use apple configurator to fix this, if that is even possible ( and the logic board isn’t really dead) since I did not find much info about recovery mode using that software for intel macs.

The Apple Configurator is a tool used by schools, collages, universities as well as businesses which have Apple gear to maintain them.

It is designed to let the IT dept. manage the apps and locate their systems. The fact you got this message tells us this system was owned by a school as such it needs to connect to the schools network. If this system was assigned to you contact your schools IT group to get it fixed. Otherwise you won’t be able to override the configurator services.

Update (09/29/2021)

@nick9989 - OK, Time to create a bootable OS installer drive using a USB-C drive. You'll need access from another Mac to download macOS Mojave (10.14.1) or newer How to get old versions of macOS where you can download Mojave or Catalina. Big Sur is available from the Apps Store but the system you use will need to support it for it to download.

So using your other Mac prep the drive by formatting it to GUID and a Journaled file system. Then follow on of the following guides:

Now with the a bootable OS installer drive: Plug in your drive and restart your system, but! Press the Option (⌥) to get into the Startup Manager and use the error keys to select your boot drive and you should be able to then install a fresh OS onto your internal drive.

This is my personal computer, I just tried the apple configurator after watching some youtube videos to see if I can fix it in dfu mode.

Ah! Computer is looking for home which it can't find! Did you assign a management system and admin user account?

@danj No, but I'm guessing apple wiped the computer during their testing and now it has no os or recovery, just a blank drive. The page I linked the image from says it could be a os version mismatch between target and host mac.
