The battery is still in the original shipping envelope and has never been used or even opened up. My iPhone SE (Gen 1) is now showing signs of battery deterioration as it is not holding a charge too long. I wanted to change it but I am now concerned that the battery I have (new) is perhaps no longer any good? I asked iFxit but they cannot provide guidance and suggested I try the forum.

Thanks for the suggestion to test the battery. I think it is probably more feasible to just replace the battery with fresh stock and avoid duplication of work. Your suggestion is very much appreciated though.

I would remove the other battery and connect the new battery to the connectors on the logic board, but not use adhesive to stick the battery down. Conmect the display(if you disconnected it) and plug it into the charger. Wait a few minutes after connecting the charger. Did it boot up?
