Touch ID button works only if I press it hard

Hi guys,

my iPhone 8 plus is like new, no water damage, no damage at all. But since yesterday I have to press the home button really hard to make it work. I mean really hard, only then the tactip engine makes the vibration and a click is happen. At least the fingerprint sensor is working fine.

It has nothing to do with the home button settings, I already checked everything. I know the setting in General/HomeButton with the 3 options, but mine is still at 2 like always. It think it is a hardware problem.

Had anyone this problem? Some reasons?

Thank you, MethodMan

It seems strange that this problem has happened out of the blue. Usually it occurs after a screen replacement or the removal of the home button assembly.

I would back the phone up and try a restore to rule out software. If this doesn’t work it would point to the sensor IC “Turtle” on the home button assembly becoming faulty. This IC determines the amount of pressure being applied to the home button.

If this is the case your choices are:

·         Taking it to an apple store where they will charge you for a new screen replacement. (They will not just replace the home button)

·         Find a reputable repairer to replace the “Turtle IC” cost of around $100

·         Replace it with a universal home button and lose touch ID

·         Just keep using it as it is.

Thank you very much!

My device is like new. It was never opened, I bought it nearly 4 years ago. Literally it happened out of the blue. I tried a restore already, it didn’t help. A screen replacement is too expensive for a nearly 4 years old device. I will use it until I buy a new phone. Apple devices are no longer reliable, disappointing.
