Yesterday there was no loud noises from the fan but it is frozen over again. Freezer is still freezing but the fridge is warm. I’ve unplugged it & will try using a meter to see what that problem is. Hoping I can find a YouTube video lol. Thanks everyone for all of your help!

We purchased a used whirlpool WRF560SEYM00 French door refrigerator (no ice maker) almost a year ago & we were told that we would need to unplug it about once a year to thaw the board & fan because they’d ice up. They had a technician go to them 2 years prior who said he could change the board but no guarantees that they wouldn’t encounter this problem again. Anyway, it started a few weeks ago making that loud noise of the fan rubbing against ice. So I unplugged it, dusted the back of the unit and plugged it back in the next morning. It’s been 2 days now. I haven’t heard the noise but my fridge is warm and the freezer is cold, but not freezing anything & I have both on the highest setting. The back wall also has ice build up again but no noise yet… I tried to do that diagnostic tool thing before I unplugged it to see if it would tell me what’s causing this. I followed the instructions and all of the lights popped up like the say in the diagram but for the end result I got what I’m taking as multiple messages which mean nothing to me.. I do want to say that both fans are working. Wondering if anyone has experienced this with this fridge and what you replaced that worked for you.. I really can’t afford to replace the fridge or buy multiple parts that won’t help.. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

There are a couple possible issues I cam think of off the top of my head. Defrost timer isn't letting it defrost long enough, defrost heater isn't working properly, or the thermistor isn't reading correctly so it comes out of defrost too soon. You'd have to get in there to test if the defrost heater is good using a multimeter to test for continuity. Given your description I don't know how capable you are at this kind of thing.

Try this. Take a hair dryer, and thaw all the ice out. All of it. Don't leave a single chip in there. Then let it sit with the door open for a few hours to dry out. Then plug it in and see how it does. You said the fans are running. Thats a good start. Thats a common failure. Verify after thawing/drying that they are both moving air. Then put all covers and plates back on as it will not cool properly without them to direct airflow. Let it run and see how it performs. If the freezer reaches temp but not the fridge after this it could be the thermostat.

The pictures with the ice are from today, before I unplugged it I noticed the fan at the back of it wasn’t running (the one that’s visible by removing the flimsy board.) but when I removed the back plate inside the fridge I plugged it in to see if they would work & both of them were running. I have a friend who has a multimeter I could use but I’m not sure what readings I would be looking for. It’s currently still unplugged thawing naturally so I don’t make any further damage lol
