Why doesn't the infrared cursor not work?

So recently I have had a problem with a Wii remote plus of mine. the infrared sensor does not work. I tried to check on my Wii U to see if it doesn’t detect infrared, but it just detects three big infrared dots all the time. This doesn’t happen with any other Wii remotes I have. Why is this happening?
