Having a bad time taking a stripped screw

Ok so I got this second hand hard drive and I was going to put it on my notebook, but the “case” it came in is screwed, and one of the screws is stripped. I’ve tried everthing to this point: rubber, tissue, steel wool, different screws, I just haven’t tried more extremes ones because I don’t have material for it. I guess my question comes first as this, if I have any other simple everyone-can-do-it-at-home way, but I also would like to know if I break the “case” in order to leave the one part trapped by this one screw there I would have any problems.

Here’s some pictures of the hard drive and the screw

Assuming you have no need for that frame, I would cut that tab or bend break it off, not too close to the screw. Then you should be able to get a pair of pliers on it and turn it. If it is jammed tight, that should cause the screw to break loose allowing it to unscrew using your previous methods.

If not you could either try cutting a new slot in it for a screwdriver or file the head off and forget about it. 3 screws will hold just fine in the new location.

Be careful you don't twist the drive housing as its doesn't take much force to damage things.
