MacBook not booting after failed USB port repair

I attempted to replace my MacBook’s partly damaged USB port, after previously successfully replacing the battery. During the repair I found out I accidentally bought the wrong replacement. I might’ve damaged the old port further during disassembly, but proceeded to reinstall it.

I disabled auto bot prior to the repair as explained here: How to Disable Auto Boot

The problem now is that the Mac refuses to boot whatsoever. Pressing the power button yields no result. Shorting the power on pads results in the battery indicator LED turning back on, but also yields no boot. Did I accidentally fry the motherboard or is this fixable? I could try buying a new USB port replacement in case the old one is the culprit, but I can’t imagine that a faulty port would prevent booting.
