How to fix iMac 27 motherboard circuit damage after blade SSD upgrade
Thank you iFixit for the valuable guide in upgrading my iMac 27 5k 2015 SSD! Unfortunately I seem to have damaged a circuit relevant to the iMac camera.
After upgrading the SSD I noticed the camera wasn’t working. Upon inspection in noticed the damage in the circuit on the back of the camera cable connector. Images attached. The cable connector itself is in pristine condition.
How could this have happened? I don’t know for sure but a few potential hypothesis I have:
- Damaged the ferrite core/inductor/blob thing when removing the motherboard during disassembly? I noticed that it was partially broken and ended up removing it with a pincer
- Result of static electricity when removing the camera cable from motherboard during disassembly?
- Result of not connecting the cable during post assembly test and running Apple Diagnostics (I did not connect the camera cable before running the Diagnostics test)?
What do you recommend I do?
- Live with it without Facetime camera or acquire an external USB camera? Inelegant solution but keeps the resale value of this computer
- Take to a computer repair shop to see if they can get the circuit fixed (I have a preliminary budget of $30)
- Any DIY solution you recommend?
Thank you!
