Cannot install macOS because of "missing firmware partition" issue

Hi all,

i have this 2015 retina macbook pro that i used to use until the ssd failed. I just use it on my desk now,

anyway, i tried to install macOS Big Sur but it gave me a message, “you may not install to this volume because the computer is missing a firmware partition”. I’ve learned that macOS High Sierra and newer don’t work, but macOS Sierra and older work. It’s so annoying and once or twice it worked but other times it doesn’t. Internet recovery only gave El Capitan.

I also have a 2009 macbook pro with Catalina if that could help with the formatting to APFS if that is the issue.

I am also running Sierra.

Thanks
