Pro controller joystick replacement won't calibrate

I’ve replaced the left joysticks on two pro controllers, and both show the same symptoms. When you enter calibration mode, the joystick motion doesn’t go all the way out to the circle in any direction. Is there a hard reset within the controller itself or any other, deeper cal mode that could allow full range of motion?
