Why isn't my external flash turning on?

This isn’t actually about the camera itself, but I didn’t see an option for my actual problem.

I have a Neewer NW400s flash. The batteries were low, we changed the batteries, and now it refuses to turn on at all. We tried three pairs of AA batteries, but nothing will make it work. It was working perfectly fine before, and now, nothing.

Are you absolutely positive that you are putting the batteries in, in the correct direction?

I have added and removed the batteries and checked the batteries so, so many times. Every single time.
