New Display installed/reassembled (twice) Still no power.

Hello folks. I'm having some issues with my iPhone 4 that I recently purchased some replacement parts for. Here's some background..

My LCD was cracked after a few untimely drops. The phone was still working until one final, fatal drop. The big CLUE I will say is this, about 3-4 days prior to the phone stopping working, the LCD would randomly turn off and would only come back on when the phone was plugged in (car charger/wall charger). This led me to believe it was a battery issue, but when I dropped it one last time, the phone no longer responded to anything.

So, I purchased a few items. I bought a new LCD/Digitizer, new volume button/headphone cable, and a new home button (more issues with that as well). After hours of work, I had reassembled the phone and....No response.

Am I dealing with a battery issue? Could there be another issue?

After assembling, disassembling, re-assembling, I have no noticed anything visually/physically wrong.

Please help. Opinions?

Hey Kyle,

The fact that, even prior to the fatal drop, the phone only turned on while it was plugged in makes me think that there is a battery problem. I'd recommend trying to replace it.

Thanks Jake. I appreciate your response. I agree with thinking it could be a battery issue, my only issue with that is that....now, with the new lcd/display and new dock connector cable, I would think that it would at least turn on when being "charged". Unfortunately, it does not respond to anything.

This "no response" has me worried that it could be something more serious. I will try and locate a guinea pig iPhone 4 battery from family or friends today to determine if that is the case. Thanks man.

I would also go back and check over your other replacement parts and ensure everything is hooked up right.

Especially check the dock connections.

You have probably assembled correctly but maybe havent pushed one of the cables right home.

Thanks for the input Ash. I took that approach and took the time to dismantle it and reassemble it a second time, unfortunately, no change. I am confused as %%@*.

At this point, being that I've already purchased a replacement LCD, replacement back plate, replacement dock connector, replacement home button cable, and a replacement headphone/volume control cable, I am all but done spending money on something that has no guarantee of working.

What's next? A battery? Logic Board? I mean, at this point, I'm wasting money.

Like I said earlier, I'm fairly savvy when it comes to "tiny electronics" and I've worked inside this iPhone a few times before and this has got me very frustrated and completely confused. Thanks for the help.

Kyle, just out of curiosity, have you check the battery connection and the dock connector with a multimeter? Have you checked for continuity on the traces? I believe that there is a fuse on the VCC trace to pins C3,C4 and D3 of the 338S0867 Power Management Unit. You can also download the iPhone 4 diagram from here and see what you get. I know this is more of a comment than an answer but I can not attach images to a comment :-)

Kyle, the problem you are having is the mother board is dead.

If the phone is not turning on with or without the charger and you have replaced the Digitizer and LCD.

There is only one other part that i can advise you to replace and that is the chargeing port but if that does not fix anything then like I said the mother board is dead.
