1 Why is are my fans running at peak and my mouse lagging? (Reset SMC?)
My MacBook Pro suffered a nice blow to the keyboard from an object that fell from an shelf 3 feet above. While there wasn’t any physical damage, my fans immediately began to run at peak and began sounding like a diesel truck. I noticed that there was dust all around the unibody case, my thought was that the impact of the falling object caused the dust to escape the laptop from every crevice it possibly could. I opened the back plate up and cleaned out the fans and whatever else I could get to. When I turn the MacBook back on, the Apple logo and loading bar appear, however as it boot, the fans start running at peak again. It takes anywhere from 5-10 minutes to load the login screen. The mouse is lagging, there’s not backlit key board or light on my magesafe. I’ve tried my MagSafe on another Mac and it works.
I’ve tried to boot in safe mode, same thing.
ive tried to run Apple diagnostics (Press “D” when powering up) - it takes me to internet recovery instead.
ive tried to reset SMC, (followed every instruction out there) - no dice.
ive only been successful at resetting the PRAM.
i don’t see any damage to my RAM, CPU/GPU, my HEAT SINK, or and components on the logic board.
what could be the reason why I can’t reset SMC?

I’m trying to run it now. Should I hold D or just press it once. I’ve tried to do this before but it takes me to internet recovery instead

@dan, i tried to run it. got an error "Error: 8000000000003, Cannot load 'EFI/Drivers/TestSupport.efi'
Status: 0x00000003
Looking this up appears to be related to apple updating the apple diagnostics which doesnt allow older macbooks of my year to access the new apple diag tool.
