Unable to charge the computer

Hello!

I have an ASUS ROG GL503VD, but I can’t charge it at all. I’ve tried to get a new adapter and nothing does. The little LED won’t even lit up.

Does anyone knows what could be happening?

Thanks.

You need to be sure that the new adapter is functioning properly….do you have another device that you can test it with…or maybe a friend has a device you can try it on…

Perhaps you can find your answer here… https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.ph...

Hi @luzzardik ,

You may have to disassemble the laptop and check if the DC-In jack cable connection is loose or if the jack has continuity from its’ input to the cable plug which connects to the motherboard. (supplier example only to show what it looks like and the cost of the part. There are other suppliers online that may suit you better. Just search for 14017-00370000 to get results).

Sometimes with this type of jack the centre pin connector breaks internally in the socket which means that the connection is open circuit i.e. no power to motherboard.

Here’s an image taken from a teardown video that shows the location of the DC-In jack that may help.

Use the video to open the laptop and then, disconnect the battery as soon as you can to prevent any problems later on when working in the laptop. Also if possible wear a wrist strap to minimize any ESD problems if you accidentally touch any sensitive components etc.

Continue disassembly until you can disconnect the DC-In cable from the motherboard and then use an Ohmmeter to test the jack for continuity of both the centre pin and outer ring connector from the input side of the socket to the cable plug.

Reconnect the battery as late as possible in the reassembly process.

If the jack tests OK then there may be a problem on the motherboard.

If all this seems too daunting, contact a reputable, professional laptop repair service and ask for a quote.
