Is Mid 2011 MacBook Air (11") display compatible with Late 2010?

I have been looking everywhere for this answer but can't seem to find it.

I have an 11" Macbook Air, Late 2010 model and I also have the Mid 2011 model as well. I cracked the LCD on my 2011 and would like to replace the entire display (not just the LCD) with the one from my 2010. The model numbers on both show A1370, which I thought was odd, but would you assume that they are compatible? Should I be able to just pull the display off the 2010 and attach to 2011?

As I mentioned, I don't want to change just the LCD but the entire display following the steps shown here at iFixit.

Thanks in advance

Question = Answered...

I disassembled both machines this evening, and upon attaching the 2010 screen assembly to the 2011 body, I noticed two things:

1) 11.6" Mid-2011 MacBook Air's did not use a shim between the hinge and case assembly like the 2010 model, which had a single metal shim between each hinge.

2) Since the Bluetooth/Airport board is mounted differently on the Mid-2011 i5 Logic Board, the antenna cables on the Late-2010 screen assembly DO NOT reach. I repeat, they DO NOT REACH.

Long story short - This does not work.

Hope this helps.

Just replace the LCD by itself so you don't have to worry about all this nonsense. The antenna cables and webcam cables all differ a tiny bit from year to year, and even if YOU Knw what YOU need, most likely the idiot selling it to you doesn't and will send you the wrong crap(or something different than what is in the title).

So save yourself the misery and just buy the LCD cell by itself, drink some southern comfort and get to replacing it. You'll save a few hundred bucks too.

Thank you simran for the reply. So essentially everything is identical between the two. That's good to know.

I dont' know about between the 2 models you mentioned, but I recently replaced the screen on my Mid 2013 Air with the display from a Mid 2012 Air.

what worked:

Screen mounts and display cord plugged in straight away, absolutely no issues.

what didn't work:

the FaceTime camera in the Mid-2012 used a different connector. Also, the camera plugs into the I/O board on the Mid-2012 model. the 2013 model uses a camera with a differernt connector that plugs directly into the logic board. I tried to get around this by using the logic board also from the Mid-2012 model, but it wouldn't boot.

Second, the wifi/bt card in the Mid-2012 is about half an inch shorter than in the newer model, meaning that the antenna cables will not reach the connections on the newer card.

Does the metal shim prevent the lid from closing? Are there bluetooth/WiFi antenna extension cables available anywhere? I've googled around but to no avail.

I have a Macbook Air Late 2010 with water damage and a Macbook Air Early 2011 with a cracked screen. It seems to me that if the metal shim could be removed somehow and you could extend the antenna cables, this could happen.

Granted, I haven't taken mine apart yet because if this really can't work as SecondHandMac has stated, then I'm just going to sell them as is and move on.

Dunno about 11", but as for the 13" 2010-2011 models, the LCD assemblies are perfectly compatible and interchangeable, just replaced one today.
